How to Make Percy Jackson Nectar

Percy Jackson Nectar in a glass next to the book The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan.

Ever wanted to learn how to make Percy Jackson Nectar? You know, the drink of the gods? It’s the stuff that Percy drank in The Lightning Thief in order to heal himself and become strong. Here’s our review of The Lightning Thief if you’d like to read it.

“If you weren’t like us, you couldn’t have survived the Minotaur, much less the ambrosia and nectar.”

“Ambrosia and nectar.”

“The food and drink we were giving you to make you better. That stuff would’ve killed a normal kid. It would’ve turned your blood to fire and your bones to sand, and you’d be dead. Face it. You’re a Half-blood.”

-The Lightning Thief, pg. 88

This Yummy Drink is Irresistible!

Let’s read on to recall why this drink is truly special and why you should want to recreate it.

“I recoiled at the taste, because I was expecting apple juice. It wasn’t that at all. It was chocolate-chip cookies. Liquid cookies. And not just any cookies. My mom’s homemade blue chocolate- chip cookies, buttery and hot, with the chips still melting.”

The Lightning Thief, pg. 60

Ambrosia and Nectar (Ambrosia being food and the nectar meaning a drink) will taste like your favorite comfort food. And it’s different for each individual. What would your ambrosia and nectar taste like? Me? I’d be satisfied with anything chocolate, especially ooey gooey underbaked chocolate chip cookie bars. With a bit of half-melted vanilla ice cream on top. Mmm!

Here’s How Percy Jackson Nectar Should Look

The drink has a very specific appearance. It’s supposed to look like apple juice, but I couldn’t get mine to look like that, unfortunately. Nor could I make it taste warm and icy cold at the same time. Because let’s face it, real magic doesn’t exist outside of books.

But I did my best to copy the description:

“On the table next to me was a tall drink. It looked like iced apple juice, with a green straw, and a paper parasol stuck through a maraschino cherry.”

-The Lightning Thief, pg. 58

Now, as you’ll see in the pictures, I used Blue Chocolate Chip Cookies instead of just regular chocolate chip cookies like the recipe calls for. Why? Because I wanted to be as authentic as I could since the book says that Percy thought the nectar tasted like his mom’s blue chocolate chip cookies.

You don’t have to make the blue ones if you don’t want to. It’s totally up to you! You could even use store bought cookies if you really wanted to. No judgment!

Ingredients You’ll Need:

First of all, I used the recipe from Two Peas and Their Pod. I thought it looked really good, so I thought I’d give it a go! Check out their site if you want to.

-Vanilla ice cream

-3 Chocolate Chip Cookies (Blue chocolate chip cookies, if you’d like)

-Chocolate Chips

-Milk- any kind

-a green straw

-a maraschino cherry

-a drink parasol-I got mine at Walmart

Place ice cream, cookies, chocolate chips, and milk into a blender.

Next, put on lid and blend until smooth.

Percy Jackson Nectar blended in blender, bubbles breaking through the surface.

Pour into two glasses. Pierce the cherry with the parasol and place in drink. Add a green straw. Enjoy and sip as you think about all your favorite comforts in life!

I have no doubt you’ll love this drink. It tastes a lot like cookies and cream ice cream, but in liquid form. It is THAT good.
